From Cursix Tales
Here is a list of starship classifications; while not many of these apply in this story. This list was not of my own creation, credit goes to "New Imperial Federation" - A Star Wars based website.
Do keep in mind, I've removed as much references to Star Wars as I could, but not all due to clarity (Like Battle Stations, the DS makes a good reference)
In appliance with this story, both the Neko Federation and Human Empire use these classifications, along with tbe Bjuher. But the Shinseki and MM don't follow these since their technology is far more advanced (And MM? Well, he could give a rats ass about 'classification')
Still A Work In Progress.
Neko Ships (refer to the list below for classes)
Artemis, *MAJOR SPOILER READ IF YOU DARE*
Indignation, Dreadnaught class

Unknown - Cynax, Unknown MK 2 Class
- Unknown MK2
- It's STILL Unknown ok? But uhh.. wait.. what the hell is a MK 2 version doing here? Has MM and Washu been experimenting again...
- Unknown
- Its unknown! Sorry but you'll have to wait until later in the story to find out :p
- Battlestation
- A battlestation is a military platform, often anchored in orbit around a planet or installation like Golan Stations. However, there also exists deep-space battlestations such as the infamous Death Stars, which are capable of hyperluminal travel and are as such not stationary, though they are relatively slow compared to any other ships.
- Battleship
- The largest, heaviest, most heavily armed and armoured gunships in existance.
- Battlecruiser
- About as large as battleships (for heavy BC), battlercuisers have the heavy guns of battleships, but not as heavy armour. This was to give them improved speed for their size, which would allow them to select their engagements and strike at enemy cruisers at long range.
- Large Cruiser
- Large Cruisers are bigger and generally more heavily armed than heavy cruisers.
- Heavy Cruiser
- Cruisers are the main combatants in any serious battle, given the relative rareness of battleships. They are also the foremost means of power projection. The most famous ship in this class is the Imperator which lies in the upper spectrum of heavy cruisers, but there are many others.
- Medium Cruiser
- This class is often just called cruisers. They lay between heavy and light cruisers in size and armament.
- Light Cruiser
- Light cruisers are smaller, lighter armed and armoured than either heavy or medium cruisers. Light cruisers have an emphasize on speed and are sometimes smaller than destroyers. the classes overlap thanks to tiny but for their size heavily armed ships like the Carrack- and Bayonet-classes. Light cruisers have similar roles as destroyers do in escorting larger vessels, but they also operate independantly.
- Destroyer
- Destroyers are generally smaller than light cruisers and with less armament. They are meant to escort larger ships and protect against smaller ships than themselves, such as frigates, corvettes and fighters.
- Frigate
- Frigates are like destroyers meant to escort larger ships and protect them. Heavy frigates are better at harassing larger ships, while light frigates like the Lancer is a dedicated anti-fighter platform. There is also the odd Assault Frigate, which is usually a converted, older, larger ship, but with the armament of a frigate. The end result is a heavy frigate disproportionate in size, much larger than other frigates.
- Monitor
- A small ship, barely above corvette size, but with disproportionally heavy guns and armour. A wise commander engages the largest and and most dangerous enemy ships first, which usually leaves monitors free to wreak havoc against less heavily armed ships. They are meant to threaten cruisers and conduct heavy bombardment.
- Corvette
- The smallest ships you find before you leave capital warships, which is defined as a ship above 100 m in lenght. Corvettes are small, fast, agile ships suited for a multitude of tasks, patrol, anti-starfighter screening, troop transport, light escort, and harrasement. There are also some small speciality ships which have been generally classified as corvettes.
- Interdictor
- An interdictor is a ship mounting gravity well projectors that can form a mass shadow in space. This mass shadow both prevents the use of hyperdrives within its reach, as well as cause ships already travelling in hyperspace to revert to realspace. This is due to built-in safety features in hyperdrives which are meant to prevent a fatal collision. Such safeties can be overridden, but it takes time and its risky to jump from inside a gravity well, especially one that can change. Interdictors doesn't come in any one size, but is a special task usually performed by ships with a primary or secondary other role. -Alternate role for this story is that the interdictors also act as a Node Drive Canceler.
- Carrier
- Most warships are large enough to carry fighters, however this is not their primary role. Such vessels carries fighters mainly as a means of protection against other fighters. A carrier is a ship whose primary role is to carry fighters into battle. There are four main types, the largest being the Fleet Carrier which can carry hundreds of fighters, the Assault Carrier which has an emphasize as a warship compared to other carriers, creating more of a half warship and half carrier type. There is also the Light Carrier which usually holds about 12-8 squadrons and the Escort Carrier (named such because it is often used as an escort for convoys), which normally holds six squadrons, a half wing.
- Transports
- Transports are usually very lightly armed for minimal defence. They are built to move heavy equipment from point A to point B, that's it. Light transports carry just a few hundred tons and are subcapital in size, while medium transports are just about capital size, while heavy to superheavy transports can reach 22 km in lenght and carry billions of tons of cargo.
- Modular Taskforce Cruiser
- This unique design deserves a special mention. It can perform in many different roles, but is weighed in as a light cruiser when compared with other warships capabilities.
- World Devastator
- Another unique ship, which proper classification is "assault ship", albeit one of unusual size and power. Since the NIF made certain modifications to the base design and use them both for ship to ship combat, planetary assault and general manufacturing, the classification was altered to Heavy Battlecruiser, which is hardly correct except for the vessel's powerful capabilities.
- System Patrol Craft
- About the size of a corvette but with sublight propulsion only, making this the equivalent of a coast guard ship, suited for intra-system patrol, customs duty and light combat tasks. A subclass is the Patrol Ship, similar but which comes equipped with a hyperdrive. Essentially the same as a Corvette but lighter armed.
- Gunboat
- Subcapital ship between 99 - ca 30 m length, heavily armed for its size. It functions like a very heavy assault fighter but can also serve as a light troop transport, or as a ground support craft. The rebels, and later, the New Republic, used large quantities of civilian light transports modifed for military duty in the role as gunboat / assault shuttle, and this was also sometimes the case with the Empire though it also used purpose-built gunboats.
- Shuttle
- Subcapital ship with a focus on troop transportation. A subtype is the Assault Shuttle, which also functions like a gunboat. The difference between these small ship types are somewhat blurred, but a gunboat tend to be more focused on being an assault craft, while an assault shuttle is more focused on being a transport.
- Fighter
- A ship less than 30 m in lenght, often around 10-15 or less, and typically with only a single pilot, though extremes can have up to five. It is very fast and maneuverable regardless of configuration. Fighters are separated into different combat roles - Interceptors, Superiority Fighters, Assault Fighters, and Bombers. Many fighters can dual-role, and a few are able to multi-role, though no fighter can cover all roles. They are also further separated into light, medium and heavy. Fighters have five main functions - anti-fighter, tactical assault, ground support, escort, and bombing. Numerous speciality role fighters have been built as well.
