From Cursix Tales
Universal Magic is the act of using a spell that is widely known, like a fire ball or a Tri-Ace Sabre.
First Stage Healing, Protective, Offensive and Defensive are considered "Universal Magic" because they are widely known.
There are, however, two different types of spells:
Incantation and Incantationless spells
Incantation spells require a phrase or word to use, sometimes also requiring a long incantation to use - an example is Rena's Omega spell. In order to use a spell that requires an incantation, the person has to be standing still and concentrating, it's difficult to through a spell that requires that type of magic when they are constantly under attack or in motion. The other thing about an incantation spell is that a magic diagram is drawn on the ground, this serves as a warning to those who are around the person, and even to their enemy, that they are chanting a spell.
Incantationless spells require no phrase or incantation and can be used at a moments notice, these spells are typically more powerful than their basic counter-parts. Incantationless spells don't have diagrams drawn on the ground when casted, the diagrams instead are drawn on the palms of their hands.
All spells start off as having an incantation, it's up to the student to develop that spell to the point where it no longer requires an incantation.
